Field: A Journal of Arts and Science Vol. 6

  • Book Development & Cover Art

While working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Drew was interviewed and accepted for a paid internship opportunity to serve as Art Director for Field: A Journal of Arts & Science Vol. 6. She developed the cover for the journal, was responsible for the layout/typography of the entire journal, and served as the Art Director of the Art Board that blind peer-reviewed art submissions. She also created the cover art for the podcast to complement the journal’s look for Vol. 6. This volume of Field was the first to create a podcast where the Executive Board discussed the process of working on the journal throughout the year and submitters could talk about their work. • Journal's Cover Art Concept

“The butterflies on the cover of Field: A Journal of Arts and Sciences are more than just beautiful flying insects. As creatures known for adapting through their life cycles, they were the perfect choice to represent Indiana University Kokomo’s academic year during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

-Excerpt from IU Kokomo Newsroom’s article on the Journal

Despite all the negative, there were still some positive moments that came from the COVID-19 pandemic such as adaptation, growth, and creative perseverance. I think we showed that throughout the whole journal. Sometimes there truly is beauty in the chaos.
